Enough with the candles, its time to get angry
Are you angry? If you’re like me, you are. So what are you doing about it? Lighting candles? Going out on peace marches? What the fuck for! Let me be very clear:…
Are you angry?
If you’re like me, you are. So what are you doing about it? Lighting candles? Going out on peace marches?
What the fuck for!
Let me be very clear: the only people that benefit from us going out and lighting candles are the television channels who are launching “campaigns against terror”. And our politicians who continue to do whatever they want to because they know they’re going to get elected again, and a thousand lit candles at India Gate are just that — melted wax that NDMC workers will clean up the morning after.
Consider the events since the attacks — after resigning, the Maharashtra chief minister is in Delhi tonight lobbying to keep his job. The chief minister of Kerala’s statement reeks of the sort of arrogance that our politicians revel in.
Here are some facts:
We own the houses the politicians live in. We own the cars they drive around in. We give the money they squirrel away in offshore bank accounts. They expect us to treat them with respect, to be treated like maharajahs. They forget they are public SERVANTS. They SERVE us. That is their function. Who the fuck told them they are modern day maharajas. That they can do whatever the fuck they want to do. Implement policies that air aimed at caste pockets.
And they laugh at us. They know we are impotent. Incapable of affecting them in any way. Because we don’t vote. Because urban India is not represented in Indian polity.
Enough. We need to put the fear of urban India into India’s politicians. I have a plan. I am waiting to hear from you.
