Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, Breaking Dawn … Midnight Sun!

Before all loyal Potter fans get their panties in a twist, let me just say I have read, watched and loved the Potter books. But of all the Potter books, only the first made me read it immediately after I finished reading it. Meyer’s fantastic series about a Vampire and his (very) human love had me going back to page one as soon as I finished EVERY TIME. And two books — Twilight, the first in the series, and Breaking Dawn, the most recent, are no officially my most read books of all time.

I know I run the danger of being labelled a dangerous perv etc for enjoying a series that’s being called the best chick lit ever. But if this is chick lit, then so is LOTR, and everything Jane Austen wrote, and Wuthering Heights …

Which reminds me of all the references, well, tips of the hat anyway to Austen novels like Pride and Prejudice and Wuthering Heights and Shakespeare as well. And they don’t come across as cheesy. In fact, they make the books that much more enjoyable. I’m sure girls across the world are sighing their way through the books, but for lovers of a good yarn there’s a damn good yarn here waiting to be discovered.

Two things to look forward to now — the next installment in the series is Midnight Sun. It’s the story of Twilight from Edward’s perspective. Meyer has put up a chapter from the book on her website.

Twilight the movie is also coming out in November. I have mixed feelings about that. As a rule, I’ve found that I prefer books over the movies based on them (including the Potter series). And I don’t see how the book lends itself to a movie. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see. Incidentally, the guy who played Cedric Diggory in the Potter movies plays Edward.
