Alive

It’s been crazy since yesterday … I had almost reached the Line of Control – the de-facto border beween India and Pakistan – when we were asked to turn back at an Indian army checkpost. We had almost reached Srinagar when we realised that militants had launched an attack. Bullets were flying. The building where the passengers scheduled to travel on the Srinagar-Muzafarrabad bus were staying was on fire. A story had to be filed.

Today morning I was up at four … and on my way to the Line of Control. The buses managed to run without incident … and I got back to the hotel in one piece – and a story had to be filed.

Now all I want to do is sleep.

I leave Srinagar tomorrow afternoon.
