So your site is on it’s way to completion and you want to put it up on the web. Looking for a host?
Before you get your site hosted, it is time to think about one thing, your site’s name.
Do you want a name like www.yourname.com? Well, then you will have to shell out 70$ to Internic to register your domain name. Aftre which you have to decide whether you want to pay for your hosting or not.
If you are happy with something like
www.somesite.com/~yourname
then you are about to enter the happy world of large communities like geocities and tripod.
if you want a name like my own naren,8m.com you should check out www.freeservers.com.
The only catch with these sites is that they will put an advertisement on your site over which you have very little control as far as placement goes.
If you do decide to buy space then you should not be spending more than 5$ a month. You should get a very good hosting plan at this rate.
tip - most Internet Service Providers, give free web space. Check with your ISP if they do, if they don’t change your ISP :-) !!
Now that you have found a place here’s how you actually get your site to work. Click here to find out about FTP.
