Sunday sentiments

One of the most highly paid columnists in this country calls his column Sunday Sentiments. It’s a nice title. It doesn’t mean too much … it lets the author get away with weekly details of how his friends and family treat him. And according to one of my colleagues it isn’t very well written either. “Everyday facts of life can be elevated to reflect society or a way of life. But, he doesn’t achieve anything.”

I have to disagree. The column has led to a number of conversations where you have a safe target to cuss at … and let off a little steam. The sentiments his column engenders aren’t exactly Sunday school, but hey, school isn’t what it used to be either.
