The vague feeling I’ve always had that religion and tolerance don’t go hand-in-hand just got translated into a statistic. When Marx said religion is the opiate of the masses, I don’t think he was dissing God. I think he was pointing out that religion is an easy way for people to stop thinking, and creating a reality that is easy to deal with.
